How do you bring more joy into your life with a writing app? It’s a question we continuously try to answer. When building out different features and capabilities in Thunk, we keep in mind the human experience and how tools can influence our thinking patterns, behavior, and yes — our mood.

One of the many proven ways tools can help us feel better about our lives is by leveraging the progress principle.

A quote from the Harvard Business Review states that “Of all the things that can boost emotions, motivation, and perceptions during a workday, the single most important is making progress in meaningful work. And the more frequently people experience that sense of progress, the more likely they are to be creatively productive in the long run.”

Knowing that showing and feeling progress contributes to boosting emotions and motivations means we should absolutely implement it into a tool that promises more clarity and joy.

One way we have done this is by adding a calendar sidebar function so that you can see your progress at-a-glance and feel the drive to keep your writing streak alive.

It’s not about how many words or how often you publish, it’s just about getting to the page. We hope the calendar view gives you the kind of lift necessary to keep up with a good habit especially on days when you’re unsure if you’re making progress.
